Narconon Display in Georgia State Capitol

Drug Education Display Interests Lawmakers

Narconon Drug Rehab in Georgia hosted an educational display at the Georgia State Capitol on March 24th, 2008 for the second year in a row.

The large exhibit filled the West End of the gold domed Capitol, generating awareness to the public about drug addiction problems in Georgia and the need for solutions.

The Executive Director of Narconon Drug Rehab in Georgia stated, “Many people don’t realize that drug addiction affects more people each year, and this has a ripple effect on the economy, on our health care system, and in our society. The solution to date, in Georgia, has been to build more prisons. What we need are more drug rehab facilities.”

Officials from different agencies walked through the exhibit, and all agreed that prevention through drug education was the key to solving the problem long term. Senators and Representatives from different counties were impressed with the information provided by Narconon Drug Rehab in Georgia.

Gordy Weinand, spokesperson for Narconon, commented, “There was a general consensus from the hundreds of elected officials and assistants who toured the exhibit that the problem is getting worse, and we need to step up our efforts at drug prevention through education.”

Narconon Drug Rehab in Georgia has been a long time proponent of treatment for drug offenders as opposed to incarceration. The first Narconon program delivered in Georgia dealt with inmates released to Narconon as a pilot program in 2001.

“We hope that we can convince lawmakers to invest more money in treatment facilities rather than in prison,” continued Mr. Weinand. “I participated in the first Narconon program in 1967. I was in prison at the time, and the program helped me become a contributing member of society, instead of fodder for the system, which I would have done had it not been for the principles I learned in the Narconon Program."

Narconon of Georgia was founded in 2001.  While many drug rehab statistics are nebulous, Narconon boasts a 76% success rate (based on a two year follow-up) through a non-12 step drug treatment program.  This program provides body detoxification through a sauna and exercise program that helps eliminate or reduce cravings.  After the sauna program, the client learns those life skills essential to success in life and the ability to stay clean.  They graduate from Narconon with a life plan and continued support to make sure they make it in life.
