The Los Angeles Lakers will have all their pieces in place when they begin their quest for a third straight NBA title next year as head coach Phil Jackson told the team he would be returning for his 11th season on the sideline.
While it will be Jackson’s 11th season with the Lakers it will be his 20th as an NBA head coach and almost certainly his last as he said in a statement, “It'll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”
Jackson had been hesitant as to whether he would return to coaching, telling reporters he had health issues to address before he could commit to another year. With those issues now cleared Jackson appears ready to hunt down his 12th NBA title as a coach.
As coach of the Chicago Bulls Jackson put together a pair of three-peat runs and managed to run off three straight with the Lakers from 2000-02. Los Angeles has won the last two NBA titles and Jackson will now have the opportunity to put together an almost unthinkable fourth three-peat.
