Katie Couric to Leave CBS News by 2009

According to reports, news anchor Katie Couric may leave her position on CBS Evening News early as the nightly news cast is suffering low ratings. The Wall Street Journal reports that Couric’s contract is up in 2011, but she may leave after the January 2009 presidential inauguration.

A spokeswoman for the newscast insists that there are no plans for Couric, 51, to leave. “We are very proud of the CBS Evening News, particularly our political coverage, and we have no plans for any changes regarding Katie or the broadcast,” said the spokeswoman in a statement to the Journal.
