Elton John said Wednesday night that misogyny has hindered the progress of Sen. Hillary Clinton during a fundraising concert for the presidential candidate.
"I’m amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some of the people in this country," John told the audience. "And I say to hell with them... I love you Hillary. I'll be there for you."
Misogyny by definition is the strong hatred or prejudice of women. A person that believes in misogyny is called a misogynist.
"I’ve always been a Hillary supporter," said John. "There is no-one more qualified to lead America."
Elton John raised $2.5 million for her campaign with the concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Wednesday night. The 5,000 tickets for the benefit concert were priced as high as $2,300 per ticket.
"The reason I’m here tonight is to play music but, more importantly," continued John, "as someone who comes from abroad and is in America quite a lot of the time and is extremely interested in the political process because it affects the whole world."
Sen. Barack Obama currently leads in pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention with 1,638. Clinton trails with 1,502. A total of 2,024 delegates is needed to win the Democratic nomination.
