Counting Crows to Perform Live at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, VA July 25

Counting Crows will be performing live at the Verizon Wirless Virginia Beach Amphitheater in Virginia Beach on Friday, July 25 at 7:00 pm.  The band will be performing next at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte, North Carolina July 28.

 

California born, the Counting Crows originated in Berkley is was inspired by Van Morrison, REM, Nirvana, Bob Dylan and The Band.  The band was formed by singer Adam Duritz (formerly of The Himalayans) and guitarist Dave Bryson in 1991.  The two began as a duo and played sets in the Berkeley and San Francisco areas.  By 1993 Matt Malley (bass), Charlie Gillingham (keys) and Steve Bowman (drums) joined the band and soon became a regular in the Bay Area music scene and soon became signed to Geffen Records.  On January 16, 1993,  the relatively unknown band filled in for Van Morrison at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony where they were introduced by Robbie Robertson of The Band.

 

In 1994 the band released its debut album, August and Everything After, which included their hit single “Mr. Jones.”  In 2004 the band received an Academy Award nomination for their song “Accidentally in Love.”
