Florida officials believe that a man killed after being stung more than 100 times was attacked by a nest of Africanized honey bees, commonly referred to as killer bees.
The man had been attempting to dismantle a trailer in Okeechobee County when he was attacked. According to residents in the area the man knew that there was a nest on the trailer but was unaware of how aggressive they were.
The sting of an individual killer bee is no more deadly than an ordinary bee but the killer bees are known to attack in swarms resulting in several stings that could prove fatal.
