Oil Tanker Explosion in Democratic Republic of Congo Kills at least 200

An oil tanker traveling through Sange in the Democratic Republic of Congo overturned Friday night, spilling oil through the village before exploding and leaving at least 200 people dead.

Large sections of the village were set ablaze following the explosion and with many of the homes made of earth and straw there was little chance for people to escape. According to one report the majority of those killed had been inside watching a World Cup match.

Officials have not said whether they believe the truck exploded when it crashed or if the fire was deliberately set following the crash. They have said that the truck appeared to be traveling at a high speed when it overturned.
