Pope Benedict XVI will be making his first visit to the United States as pontiff as he touches down in Washington, D.C. at 4:00 p.m.
After arrival Benedict will travel to the apostolic nunciature in Washington. On Wednesday he will travel to the White House where he will be welcomed on the South lawn at a ceremony headed by President George Bush.
Benedict will then a head a mass at Nationals Park on Thursday where hundreds of thousands are expected to be gathered for the visit. Later in the day Benedict will travel to the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center where he will meet with representatives of other religions.
On Friday Benedict will travel from Washington to New York where he will deliver a speech at the United Nations.
Saturday Benedict will visit with young people and seminarians at the St. Joseph Seminary and on Sunday he will travel to Ground Zero before a mass at Yankee Stadium.
Pope Benedict XVI is then scheduled to deliver a farewell speech at John F. Kennedy International Airport before heading back to Rome.
