Joey Chestnut faced little competition in Sunday’s Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest, inhaling 54 hot dogs in ten minutes to win his fourth straight title at the Coney Island annual affair.
Chestnut didn’t have to face his toughest rival, Takeru Kobayashi, who has refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating. While Kobayashi, a six-time Nathan’s hot dog champ, didn’t compete he did attend the event and provided plenty of drama.
Following Chestnut’s victory Kobayashi made his way to the stage but was quickly apprehended by police and was taking into custody.
Kobayashi has refused to sign with Major League Eating because he wants the freedom to enter eating contests that are sanctioned by other groups.
