Upon his release from the hospital, Bergendorff was arrested and charged with one count of possessing a biological toxin and two counts of possession unregistered fire arms.
Hotel staff found the ricin and several weapons in Bergendorff’s hotel room. Lab equipment and notes on ricin production were found in a storage unit rented by Bergendorff.
Bergendorff said the ricin was an “exotic idea” to poison some of his past enemies. He never carried out the plan.
He faces up to 30 years in prison and a $750,000 fine.
