Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Spar in Democratic Presidential Debate

In the city of brotherly love the Democratic presidential debate resembled an in-family fight among siblings as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton traded blows with each other in Philadelphia, PA in hopes of landing a knockout punch and earning a ticket to the general election.

Clinton focused on the recent comments made by Obama while speaking to a small crowd in San Francisco. In what has now been dubbed “Bitter-Gate,” Obama described small town voters as bitter due to the loss of jobs. According to Obama it is this bitterness that has led them to “cling” to their religion, guns, and an antipathy towards immigration.

Hillary opened up on Obama for these comments, calling the Illinois senator out of touch with the American people and commented during the debate, “People don’t cling to their traditions on hunting and guns.”

While “Bitter-Gate” was the most recent scandal to hit the Obama campaign Clinton did return to the senator’s relationship with his former pastor Jeremiah Wright Jr. Clinton said the relationship was a “legitimate area for people to be exploring.”

Obama wasn’t willing to allow Clinton to get all the jabs as h once again brought of the New York senator’s Bosnia trip in which she claimed to have been in the middle of sniper fire during her 1996 trip as first lady. That account was proved to be false and she took a beating by the media and voters for her “believability” factor.

The two candidates did eventually talk about the issues facing America and both actually agreed that they would not raise taxes on those making less than $200,000 a year. When the topic of Iran was brought up both candidates agreed that if Israel was attacked the U.S. would respond.

The Pennsylvania primaries will be held on April 22.
