The State of Michigan has been devastated by the number of meth labs that have been created. In Calhoun County Michigan alone, the number of labs increased from 14 labs to 39 in just one year. This number does not include the meth labs which are now in cars and are mobile. More busts are being made around CalhounCounty and unfortunately more are being discovered after the damage has already hit the home.
“Firefighters and police officers are often being called to the scene of meth lab fires in CalhounCounty,” says Megan Werner Brennan, Public Contact Supervisor for NarcononFreedomCenter, a non-profit drug rehab program. “In the recent month there has been three meth labs busted in CalhounCounty alone. These labs are very dangerous and can cause serious consequences including death”.
NarcononFreedomCenterlocated Albion, Michigan has been helping addicts from around the country for eight years. The center uses a holistic approach to withdrawal and detoxification. NarcononFreedomCenter is known for their sauna program where a client sweats out the residues from their body, that are left by drugs, to help them overcome the physical aspect of addiction.
“One of the goals of NarcononFreedomCenter is to help educate the public with the information needed to learn exactly how dangerous these labs can be and with any suspicions to contact police immediately and not approach the area. Michigan State Police have developed a website that also gives information out on meth labs http://www.michiganmethwatch.org/” says Brennan.
Brennan goes onto say that many apartment complexes are at risk for meth labs; not only apartment itself, but all the apartments surrounding the lab. Unfortunately, many children are affected by this and parents have no idea if there is a lab nearby.
“The best thing to do if you suspect there is a lab near you,” she says, “is to call the local authorities and get it reported.”
