Rafael Nadal Wins Wimbledon
Spanish Tennis Champ Wins 2nd Wimbledon Title
On Sunday, Spanish tennis great Rafael Nadal, who is currently ranked number 1 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals, won his second Wimbledon title by defeating Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. The victory also marked Nadal's eighth overall Grand Slam title. It was only a year ago that Rafa was hampered by a knee injury that kept him from playing in Wimbledon, but Nadal said after winning this year's Wimbledon that "Now last year is past... I know what happened one year ago, and how difficult it was for me, how much I had to work to be back at my best level." Meanwhile, Roger Federer, the Swedish tennis champion who won last year's Wimbledon, has dropped to the number 3 spot for the first time since 2003. Federer appeared in the last 7 Wimbledon finals, but was upset in the quarterfinals this year by Berdych. Nadal, as mentioned before, is now the number 1, with Novak Djokovic of Serbia at number 2.
