South Africans Take to Street to Protest Rising Food Prices

South Africans protesting the rising price of living, specifically the ever increasing cost of food, took to the streets in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The protest, organized by the Congress of South African Trade Unions, rallied nearly 5,000 citizens who marched through the city center in an effort to bring more awareness to the plight of the poor who are no longer capable of sustaining an acceptable livelihood.

Costau delivered signed petitions to the energy company Eskom as well as Pick ‘n Pay, a major supermarket in the city. Those petitions appealed to the companies to stop raising their prices on services and goods.
