Economy Hits: Direct Mail Marketer Fights Back

PostcardMania’s CEO, Joy Gendusa, sends out her “never say die attitude” message to entrepreneurs to continue to market during the economic slump by cutting her own pricing structure.

Recent survey by the National Federation of Independent Business tracked 735 business owners who said they were worried about the general economic climate and their sales growth.[1][1]  CEO of the fast-growth postcard marketing company, PostcardMania, decided to do something about it and announced 2 days ago that she slashed her prices — first in the history of the near 10-year old company.  She said she did it to help entrepreneurs keep their business doors open.

From reports, Gendusa decided to slash her prices after attending a Todd Rundgren concert.  “Something about seeing [Rundgren] jump up and down on that stage at almost 60 years old got me to thinking that if he could disagree with being old, then I could disagree with an economic slump,” she said.  “I’m just not having one… and I’m not going to let my customers have one either.”  She said she slashed her prices 25% for one reason only: she’s passionate about helping entrepreneurs flourish and prosper and she wants business owners to quit believing in the impending doom.

Gendusa says that 4 tips for coming out ahead during an economic slump are:

Market like crazy – pick up the customers your competitors will lose by cutting their marketing budgets;

Look for terms where you can pay for your marketing when your income starts rolling in – this staves off the bite of having to spend money before the sales come in;

Make better use of your own database – marketing for new customers is expensive but marketing to your existing customers has a higher return on investment.  So step up your marketing to your existing customer base;

And don’t “agree” — don’t buy into the fact that you can’t control your business’ outcome.
