An independent summer camp survey conducted with over 6,000 graduates of SuperCamp's academic summer camps showed dramatic improvements in students' grades, confidence and motivation. The doctoral thesis also showed that 98 percent of graduates continued to use at least some of the learning and life skills they gained at the summer camp program.
The quantitative and qualitative results reported that 73 percent of students showed an increase in grades, 81 percent developed more confidence, 84 percent had an increase in self-esteem and 68 percent increased their motivation.
These results trace to a number of factors about SuperCamp that make the learning environment uniquely effective. It begins with SuperCamp’s proprietary Quantum Learning method of teaching and learning developed over 25 years ago by SuperCamp co-founder and president, Bobbi DePorter. At the heart of this method is that students learn how to learn, which means the retention of what they learn at SuperCamp is long-term.
There are a number of other contributing factors to SuperCamp’s success. It provides peer support that reinforces efforts, achievements and positive attitudes. It helps improve communication, listening and peer relationship skills. It uncovers and teaches to individual learning styles. It encourages goal setting and taking responsibility for one's actions. It enhances the capability for problem-solving and creative thinking. And it ensures a challenging, safe program that is intellectual, physical, creative and fun.
Beyond the success seen in the numbers reported in the doctoral thesis, there are the personal stories, such as Jonathan. Jonathan attended two SuperCamp youth programs and one Quantum U program. Jonathan had low grades and low motivation before attending SuperCamp. Jonathan improved through high school and went on to attend university where he achieved a 4.0 GPA. He credits his academic success and happiness to Quantum Learning's reading, critical thinking and study skills. He says that he never felt more fulfilled in his life.
Positive results are also noted by parents of high-achieving students. This comment, by a parent of a straight-A student who attended SuperCamp, is indicative: "My daughter attended SuperCamp at Stanford this summer and to say she enjoyed it would be the understatement of the year. She's always been a great student and daughter, but this was a life-changing event for her. She has just written her first English essay as a freshman and, of course, it is about SuperCamp. Keep up the good work! It is much appreciated by parents and students! Her siblings will soon be SuperCampers, too."
This summer SuperCamp will hold camps at eight U.S. colleges. Four grade-specific programs will be offered for students entering grades 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12 and college in the fall.
