Amare Stoudemire To Sign With Knicks
Former Suns Star Makes a Deal
According to a report from ESPN.com, 2003 NBA Rookie of the Year and 5-time NBA All-Star Amare Stoudemire reached an agreement on Monday to join the New York Knicks. Although the 5-year, $99.7 million contract deal cannot be actually signed until Monday, Stoudemire has, in principle, signed with the Knicks, unless something unexpected happens. Meanwhile, the Knicks still hope to acquire free agent LeBron James, who wanted the Cleveland Cavaliers the acquire Stoudemire last February. There is also the possibility that the Knicks will reach an agreement with Dwyane Wade, although that seems less likely if only because Wade has repeatedly expressed his interest to stay with the Miami Heat. In any case, Stoudemire's decision may be what the Knicks need in order to attract James. "I feel great, really, about being a pioneer," said Stoudemire. "It's a situation where no one wanted to make that first move, and I felt confident enough to take that first step, and hopefully now we can bring in a few guys to join us." (Sources: ESPN.com)
