I've made (literally) millions of dollars sending emails out through an email autoresponder over the last 5 years. But I've also lost about a million dollars through email autoresponder "screw ups" that I could have probably avoided if I'd only known a few things to watch out for first. Here's the biggest points to check before you sign up for an email autoresponder service:
Email Autoresponder Nightmare #1: Deliverability Stinks
Imagine this: you spend days, months, yes even years building up your subscriber list and putting it into your email autoresponder to mail out to. You spend months and thousands of dollars crafting an offer to sell to your list. You are all set to make some good money.
But when you press "send," your email autoresponder only delivers your email to a third of your actual list. The rest of the people in your email autoresponder hear nothing from you about your offer - simply because your email autoresponder deliverability stinks! Deliverability of an email autoresponder is one of the most important things to watch for.
You can ask the email autoresponder company how their deliverability is before you sign up, but they are highly likely to give you the "best case scenario." If you want an honest assessment of the deliverability of an email autoresponder, ask a few people who use them already. You could save yourself thousands of dollars and endless headaches.
Email Autoresponder Nightmare #2: Slow as Molasses
Here's another important thing to look into before deciding to go with an email autoresponder, and again, be sure to ask some unbiased users - not just the email autoresponder company.
Some email autoresponders are slow as molasses about actually sending your messages out. Imagine that you want a message to "hit" your list at 6:00 p.m., because one, midnight is the deadline for your offer or launch, and two, 6:00 p.m. has shown to be your most profitable time to send out from you email autoresponder.
Well, you load up your email to go out from your email autoresponder at 6:00 p.m., and maybe even load it to send a little before that just to be sure. You press "send" and head to bed. Imagine your horror when you see the next morning that your email autoresponder didn't even send your email out until 8:00 am the next morning. There goes all the money you would have made!
Email Autoresponder Nightmare #3 Your List is Stuck There
Ok, so maybe you realize a little too late that the email autoresponder you have isn't living up to it's promises, maybe you have one or both of the above problems to deal with, or maybe it isn't performing for you in some other way.
Say you've decided that you want to drop this email autoresponder in favor of a better one you've found. Ok, great. Only problem is, your list (your subscribers) are all inside the old email autoresponder, and when you tell them you are leaving and want to move your list over to your new email autoresponder, they are less than cooperative. Or just slow.
Even if an email autoresponder company says they want to help you move your list over, what they say and what they do can be two different stories. They may cite "technical difficulties" but in the end it means your list gets stuck in a bad email autoresponder for months, with you bleeding money out of the nose.
Avoid this nightmare by finding out before you sign up how easy and expedient it will be to move your list if you should be unhappy with your email autoresponder for any reason.
Of course, it's not really possible to avoid ALL problems with an email autoresponder, and like I said, even given that I've had all the problems listed above in the past 5 years, I've still managed to make over 7 million dollars by sending emails out every day through my email autoresponders (yes, I've had several).
