The 2008 Boston Marathon, organized by the Boston Athletic Association, will start Monday. The 26.2 mile race from Hopkinton to Boston will have its second largest pool ever with over 25,000 runners.
The amount of runners for the 112th annual Boston Marathon is largest field since the 100th celebration of the marathon in 1996.
The Boston Athletic Association set the official start time for Push Rim Wheelchair runners at 9:25 am, while the Elite Women start at 9:35 a.m. The Elite Men & Wave 1 will start at 10:00 a.m with the Wave 2 start is at 10:30 a.m.
The Boston Marathon purse is worth $796,000, the richest of the World Marathon Majors events.
Winners of the men's and women's divisions will each receive guaranteed prize money of $150,000, which is a record in the majors, which include London, Chicago, Berlin and New York City.
The road closures due to the marathon will affect traffic Monday as thousands of drivers in Boston will be re-routed due to the course of the race.
