It has been almost a decade since Nicholas White spent 41 hours trapped in an elevator inside New York’s McGraw-Hill building but the video footage of the event has continued to fascinate people and on Monday White appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” to relive the events.
White had been working late that Friday evening back in Oct. 15, 1999 when he left his office to grab a cigarette around 11:00 p.m. Over the next 41 hours White made the close confines of the Car 30 Elevator his home as he was trapped with no way out.
Throughout the video White can be seen prying open the doors only to see a wall, climbing along the hand rail inside the elevator and spending a lot of time sleeping.
After finally gaining his freedom White managed to sue the managers of the building as well as the maintenance company in charge of the elevator. He was awarded an undisclosed sum.
