Teens Gain Confidence and Motivation at Unique Academic Camp

Some academic summer camps are providing more than just academic help to middle school and high school students. One of the leading summer academic camps, SuperCamp, provides an equal amount of learning skills training and life skills development.

This approach of teaching the whole person has worked very well with students, who benefit academically from the life skills part of the summer curriculum. SuperCamp's
teen academic camps and pre-teen camps help students gain focus, motivation, confidence, communication skills and other life skills that aid them in everything from time management and test preparation to written and oral presentations.

The life skills training for students varies somewhat based on their grade level. SuperCamp offers three summer program levels, one for students entering grades 6-8, one for students moving into grades 9-12, and one for students entering or already attending college.

A common life skills component in all three programs is the 8 Keys of Excellence. Students learn about these life principles, which are modeled by the SuperCamp staff. The 8 Keys consist of Integrity, Failure Leads to Success, Speak with Good Purpose, This Is It!, Ownership, Commitment, Flexibility, and Balance.

Many parents who enroll their kids in SuperCamp for the academic benefits report that the life skills training ends up being an added bonus. One parent says about her daughter's experience at SuperCamp, "Melisa has come back a different person or probably more to the point a person true to herself... Her 10 days at UCLA have been the turning point in her life."

This sentiment is supported in research results. A study of over 6,000 SuperCamp graduates reported that over 80 percent of these students increased their confidence and self-esteem following SuperCamp.

SuperCamp is a world leader in learning and life skills training, with over 55,000 graduates in almost 30 years. In 2010, SuperCamp is being offered at nine schools in the U.S. between early July and late August. Schools include UCLA, University of Washington, Brown and Wake Forest, among others.
