NATO Airstrike Kills Five Afghan Soldiers

Five Afghan soldiers have been killed by friendly fire following an airstrike by a NATO aircrew mistakenly identified the soldiers as militants.

 

According to reports the soldiers had been launching an attack on insurgents in eastern Afghanistan when an aircrew from the International Security Assistance Force targeted them with precision-guided munitions.

 

The catastrophic failure is now being investigated by NATO and Jane Campbell, spokesperson for the ISAF stated “This loss of life is tragic, and we offer condolences to all those who lost loved ones.” She continued “We work extremely hard to co-ordinate and synchronize our operations, and we deeply regret the loss of lives from our Afghan partners.”
