Alia Sabur, the world's youngest full-time professor, will teach at Seoul's Konkuk University starting next month, the school said Tuesday.
Sabur, 19, was appointed by Konkuk University on February 19 as a full-time professor in the Graduate School Department of Advanced Technology Fusion, where she will teach cell science to graduate students.
Sabur, who was 18 at the time she was appointed the position, is recognized as the youngest professor in history by the Guinness Book of World Records. Sabur broke the record set in 1717 by Colin Maclaurin, a Scottish mathematician and close friend of Isaac Newton, who became a professor at age 19.
Prior to this position, Sabur taught at the Southern University at New Orleans as part of relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims.
Sabur went from fourth grade to college, earning a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Stony Brook University at the age of 14. She earned her M.S. and Ph.D. (ABD) in Materials Science and Engineering from Drexel University.
Sabur, also a musical prodigy, made her clarinet debut at the age of 11, and trained at the famed Juilliard School.
Sabur will start researching and giving special lecturers at Konkuk as soon as she gets on campus. Her official courses for graduate students will start in September.
