Suicide Bomber Kills at least 28 Shia Pilgrims in Northern Baghdad

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive as group of Shia pilgrims were walking to a shrine in northern Baghdad, killing at least 28 people and leaving more than 45 wounded.

The Shia pilgrims had been traveling through the mainly Sunni district of Adhamiya when the attack occurred. Reports have said the pilgrims had been heading to the Imam Moussa al-Kadhim mosque to take part in a religious festival.

Authorities had added security forces in the hopes that it would prevent such an attack but the suicide bomber managed to elude those forces before detonating the explosive.
