10,000 Gallons of Tar Spilled on Atlanta Highway

An overturned tanker spilled more than 10,000 gallons of tar Thursday along a busy stretch of highway north of Atlanta.

The spill caused all lanes of Highway 365 near White Sulphur Road north of Gainesville, Georgia to be shut down.

As the truck rolled over, the tanker was ripped open spreading tar across the intersection, down a slope and into nearby woods.

Truck loads of sand have been spread to absorb the tar spill, while workers tried to build berms around the tar in an effort to keep it contained.

Officials have not commented on when the road, an extension of Interstate 985, will reopen.
