Wesley Snipes Sentenced to Three Years on Tax Convictions

A federal judge in Ocala, Florida has sentenced actor Wesley Snipes to the maximum three-year sentence on charges of tax evasion.

In sentencing recommendations, prosecutors had called for the maximum sentence for Snipes, saying “If ever a tax offender was deserving of being held accountable to the maximum extent for his criminal wrongdoing, Snipes is that defendant.”

Family members, friends and fellow actors including Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson wrote letters to U. S. District Judge William Hodges in support of Snipes, saying all three convictions were misdemeanors and that the actor had no previous criminal record.
