Zimbabwe Police Raid Opposition Headquarters, Hundreds Arrested

In a clear indication that President Robert Mugabe has no intention of letting go of power in Zimbabwe armed police officers raided the headquarters of the opposition as well as the offices of the independent election observers and seized information related to vote counting from the country’s recent election.

Heavily armed police entering the offices arrested hundreds of people including staff members while seizing computers and grabbing documents related to the vote count in last month’s election.

Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has declared victory in that election and has been recognized as the winner by the independent Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network yet Mugabe has refused to produce the official results.

Members of Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change have accused Mugabe of trying to delay the results as he mounts a campaign for a run-off.
