Amy Winehouse Arrested in London

According to reports in the British tabloids Friday, singer Amy Winehouse has been arrested in London on suspicion of assault.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said, “A 24-year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after attending a central London police station by appointment. She is currently in custody.” British authorities don’t usually name suspects until they have been charged, and aren’t naming Winehouse yet.

A spokesman for the retro-soul singer, whose music has been topping the charts recently, had earlier reported Winehouse would be voluntarily attending the police station by appointment for questioning over an alleged incident in London.

Allegations spread that the troubled Winehouse headbutted a 38-year old man who was attempting to hail her a taxi outside a bar.
