Forever Stamp Sales Skyrocket as Postage Hike Nears

The cost for first class postage rises to 42 cents on May 12, and customers are flooding the U.S. Post Office to try to beat that increase.

The Forever stamp is the only 41-cent stamp that will remain valid for full postage after the increase. All other 41-cent stamps will require additional postage when the new rates take effect.

Demand for the popular Forever stamp, which was introduced last year, has shot up as the rate hike approaches, with more than 30 million Forever stamps being sold per day.

After May 12, the cost of the Forever stamp will be 42 cents.

Postal officials say they have printed an additional 1.5 billion 1-cent stamps in anticipation of the demand, and already have stamps available at the new rate.

Other services will also see price increases at the Post Office. Under a new law regulating the post office, postal prices will be adjusted each May.
