Film festival features Christian productions
The film festival schedule included 14 movies or televisions shows
A young mother of three, Vanessa Ore from Charlotte, N.C., loves acting and scriptwriting. Her heart’s desire is to communicate Christ through film and the arts.
“I just want to speak the truth through this medium to the masses,” she said.
Ore is not alone, as evidenced by the number of filmmakers showcasing their films at the Gideon Media Arts Conference and Film Festival held April 14-18 at LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center.
The film festival schedule included 14 movies or televisions shows such as Amazing Grace, The Wager with Randy Travis, and a preview of the upcoming VeggieTales’ movie Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry’s Big River Rescue.
Some movies were more direct in sharing the Gospel, while others subtly intertwined Christian themes with the characters and storyline. Conference attendee Cecil Stokes previewed his award-winning documentary A Man Named Pearl about a self-learned topiary expert from South Carolina. The star, Pearl Fryar, has no formal horticulture training, but his gardens have become testimonies of God’s peace and love to the hundreds of people who have visited his home.
Film festival attendees also viewed First Landing, a film produced by students at Regent University. The film documents the journey of Robert Hunt, a minister who planted the first seeds of faith into the original colonists of early America.
Brothers Kyle and Kenny Sailors previewed an episode of Inspired Ambition, a Christian reality television series about aspiring singer Erica Lane. The series shadows Lane as she tries to break into the music industry and includes interviews with other artists who have reached professional status.
The duo – professionally marketed the Sailors Brothers – also featured at the film festival Hollywood on Fire, a documentary that chronicles the past, present and future of faith in the entertainment business. The film includes guest appearances from Cuba Gooding Jr., Denzel Washington and archived footage of Jimmy Stewart. For more information, visit HollywoodOnFire.com.
