Coldplay Single Violet Hill Available as a Free Download

British rock band Coldplay saw their website slow to a halt today after fans mobbed the site for a free download of their new single.

The song, entitled Violet Hill, became available at 7:15 a.m. ET at http://www.coldplay.com and will be available as a free download for one week.

Coldplay fans are being treated to the single a full week before their new album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, goes on sale at digital retail sites.

A statement issued by Coldplay also said information about free shows at London’s Brixton Academy on June 16 and at New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 23 is available on the website.
