The Marine Corps Marathon, also known as "The People's Marathon" is run in Arlington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The event typically takes place in late October, prior to the Marine Corps' birthday of November 10.

The Marine Corps Marathon has become the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the largest marathon that does not offer prize money. The 2006 Marine Corps Marathon was the largest thus far with a record 34,000 registrants, and approximately 150,000 spectators.
In order to participate in the marathon, one must be 14 years of age prior to October 26, 2008.
The marathon course typically takes runners between Arlington, Crystal City, and Washington, D.C. The trail generally passes through several noteworthy monuments, such as the Kennedy Center, National Mall, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
