Spam Sends Man to Prison

A man accused of sending hundreds of thousands of spam e-mails was sentenced Monday to 21 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of tax evasion and falsifying e-mail headers.

The 35-year old Colorado man, Edward “Eddie” Davidson, will also have to pay almost $715,000 to the IRS.

According to federal prosecutors, Davidson’s operation netted at least $3.5 million. The scheme involved spam e-mail that used false headers intended to disguise the sender, and targeted stock investors in an attempt to manipulate markets.
