600 Evacuated From Fort Kent Maine After Severe Flooding

Around 600 people have been evacuated from Fort Kent, Maine after the St. John River overflowed. The river spilled its banks after the snow began to melt and 3 inches of rain poured on the area. St. John rose of a record 30 feet.

Officials fear the water will spill over the levee. “We have our fingers crossed that the river is going to hold steady at 30 feet. It’s dangerously close to the top of the levee, but we hope that it doesn’t get any higher,” says a spokesman for the Maine Emergency Management Agency.

No injuries or deaths have been reported.
