Joe Andrew, a superdelegate and former Democratic National Committee chairman, is switching his support to Barack Obama from Hillary Clinton, according to reports Thursday.
Andrew first endorsed Clinton on Nov. 8, citing her "strength and experience to compete and win across this country," according to the announcement posted at the time on Clinton's campaign Web site. Andrew served as Democratic chairman from 1999-2001, appointed to the job by former President Bill Clinton.
Obama also picked up endorsements this week from Representatives Baron Hill of Indiana, Bruce Braley of Iowa and Lois Capps of California.
Obama has won endorsements from 38 superdelegates and Clinton has picked up 15 since the March 4 round of primaries. However, Clinton still leads Obama in superdelegate support, 269 to 245.
Obama holds a lead in the delegates count, 1,488 to 1,334, according to an unofficial count by the Associated Press. A candidate needs 2,025 to win the nomination.
