Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Says Iran “Moving Closer” to Potentially Developing Nuclear Weapons

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said Iran is “moving closer” to potentially developing nuclear weapons.

While Iran has long insisted that their nuclear program was for peaceful purposes many in the international community, including the United States and several European nations, have said the country’s intentions have always been to develop nuclear weapons.

Last month the UN Security Council passed a fourth round of sanctions against Iran, banning investment in the country’s oil and gas industry as well as any trading with major banks and individuals. The sanctions also tightened the current arms embargo on Iran.

Monday’s declaration from Medvedev was a break from Moscow’s past as they have long held a strong economic relationship with Iran.
