Psoriasis Treatment Reviewed by Atlanta Dermatologist Kirk D. Saddler, M.D.
Psoriasis Treatment information is now available online from the source patients trust most – their own dermatologist.
Atlanta dermatologist, Kirk D. Saddler, M.D. has published information about psoriasis treatment to his own website. Dr. Saddler’s patient education library provides treatment options, including non-prescription topical psoriasis medications, prescription topical psoriasis medications, oral psoriasis medications, Phototherapy, combination therapy, rotating therapies and biologics for psoriasis.
Biologics for psoriasis (also called “disease-modifying therapy” or “immunomodulators”) are a relatively new treatment option for people with moderate to severe psoriasis. Biologics work by targeting specific parts of the immune system, such as T cells or TNF (tumor necrosis factor), a chemical used to transmit messages between immune cells. This focused approach reduces the likelihood of side effects seen with medications that affect the entire immune system.
Dermatologists will recommend one or more psoriasis treatments depending on type of psoriasis
, the location (scalp, trunk, hands feet, etc.)
, the severity of the psoriasis, results of previous treatments
, the ease or convenience of a treatment
and possible side effects of treatment options.
