U.S. Officials Say Iranian Nuclear Scientist Free to Leave, Continue to Deny Allegations of Abduction

The United States has insisted that Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri is free to leave the country, saying he has never been held against his will and any allegations that claim otherwise are false.

Iran has accused the United States of abducting Amiri more than a year ago when the scientist was traveling to Saudi Arabia. His exact whereabouts had remained somewhat of a mystery up until Tuesday when he walked into the Pakistani embassy in Washington and requested immediate repatriation to his native country.

Tehran has insisted that Amiri was kidnapped by American agents and pointed to a series of videos that showed a man said to be Amiri. While there were three videos all three appear to contradict each other, making them meaningless.

U.S. officials have said Amiri travelled to the States on his own accord and had never had his freedom restricted.
