NASDAQ Stock Movers on FDA Decision (BPAX, VVUS, LIFE, HGSI)

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BPAX) rose 4% to $18.38 after today announced the initiation of a LibiGel (testosterone gel) clinical trial to evaluate its effect on cognitive function in menopausal women. The trial is a randomized, 6-month comparison of the effect of LibiGel compared to placebo treatment on a variety of learning and memory tasks. The study is being conducted by Dr. Susan Davis, Professor of Women's Health, Department of Medicine, Monash University Women’s Health Program in Australia.

VIVUS, Inc. (NASDAQ:VVUS) surged 13.62% after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that an initial review has found the experimental drug Qnexa was effective in helping obese patients lose weight. However, the agency highlighted five areas of safety concerns, including the effect on pregnant women and psychiatric side effects such as depression.

Life Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:LIFE) rose 2% to $46.91 after announced today that they have achieved CE-marking and commercial launch in Europe of the BCR/ABL1 Quant Test, Asuragen’s clinically validated and cGMP manufactured test intended to aid clinicians in the monitoring and treatment of individuals afflicted with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).

Human Genome Sciences (NASDAQ:HGSI) shares climbed 4.35% to $25.19 after the company entered an agreement with Lonza for the future commercial supply of BENLYSTA, which is currently under regulatory review in the United States and Europe as a potential new treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus.
