Myanmar Cyclone Death Toll Could Hit 10,000

Tropical Cyclone Nargis was first blamed for just over 350 deaths after striking Myanmar over the weekend but now the government has upped the toll to over 4,000 and has said it could rise to over 10,000 by the time things return to normal.

Several thousand are still missing after the storm struck the Southeast Asian country late Friday and into Saturday morning. The cyclone destroyed much of the low-lying Irrawaddy delta, leaving downed power lines and trees, as well as ripping apart buildings and homes.

International relief agencies have been scrambling to provide clean drinking water and shelter.
