The United States and Russia came to a key agreement on civilian nuclear power on Tuesday as both sides agreed to open nuclear trade between their country’s companies.
With the agreement, both sides were confident that it would open the possibility of increased co-operation in the nuclear field. The agreement will allow the US access to Russia’s nuclear technology while it could also open contracts for Russia to store spent nuclear fuel.
The deal was signed in Moscow by Russia’s top nuclear official Sergei Kiriyenko and U.S. ambassador William Burns and comes just one day before Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to step down as the country’s leader.
