Rosie O’Donnell Defends Jeremiah Wright, Calls Preacher “Inspirational”

Rosie O’Donnell, never one to shy away from sharing her opinion, appeared on the “Today’ show on Monday and aligned herself with the controversial preacher Rev. Jeremiah Wright saying they both have been the victim of misconception.

When O’Donnell was asked about her volatile time on ABC’s “The View” she quickly said that just like in the case of Wright “some people confuse passion for rage.”

The comedian went on to comment about the seemingly divisive remarks made by Wright, “I listen to him, and frankly, it made sense to me. I totally understood what he was saying.” That understanding carried all the way down to Wright’s contention that AIDS was intentionally introduced into the black population.

O’Donnell came to Wright’s defense on that comment claiming that the preacher had been referring to the Tuskegee Experiment in which black men were intentionally injected with syphilis by the U.S. government.

She went on to say that “There is a place in the world, an inspirational, liberational kind of preaching that Reverend Wright does.”
