Theta Chi, Phi Kappa Psi Involved in San Diego State University Drug Bust

96 people were arrested Tuesday during an undercover drug bust at San Diego State University. 75 of the people were SDSU students.

Police picked up the individuals for charges stemming from possession and sales of cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and other drugs during the operation, which was called "Operation Sudden Fall".

"Operation Sudden Fall" began in February, shortly after a San Diego State student died from an accidental overdose of cocaine in a fraternity house. The operation resulted in more than 130 undercover drug buys.

Police served nine search warrants at various locations on the SDSU campus including the Theta Chi and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity houses. Officers recovered included two kilograms of cocaine, 50 pounds of marijuana, marijuana plants, 350 ecstasy pills, mushrooms, hash oil, methamphetamine and prescription drugs.

Additionally, police say they found a shotgun, three semi-automatic pistols, brass knuckles and $60,000 cash.

A member of Theta Chi sent out a mass text message to his "faithful customers" stating that he and his "associates" would be unable to sell cocaine while they were in Las Vegas for a weekend.

Theta Chi was founded in 1856, has 131 chapters in the U.S. and Canada, and has more than 161,000 initiates.

Four members of Phi Kappa Psi were arrested as well.
