3,500 American Soldiers Scheduled to Leave Iraq

As part of a plan by Pentagon officials, about 3,500 U.S. troops are scheduled to move out of Iraq within the coming weeks.

The plan to reduce U.S. forces in Iraq will see the soldiers, part of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, redeployed to Fort Benning, Georgia.

While critics have called for a drastic reduction in the U.S. military presence in Iraq, some say a slower withdrawal is necessary.

By the end of July, about 140,000 U.S. troops will remain in Iraq.
