Georgia Court Denies Stay of Execution; Lynd Scheduled to Die Tuesday Night

William Earl Lynd is scheduled to be executed Tuesday at 7 p.m. after his plea for a stay of execution was denied.

After hearing arguments Tuesday, the Georgia Supreme Court was unanimous in rejecting requests by Lynd’s attorney for a stay. Lynd was also denied clemency by the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Lynd, convicted for the 1988 kidnapping and murder of live-in girlfriend Ginger Moore, could be the first inmate to be executed since the U.S. Supreme Court halted nationwide executions while it considered the constitutionality of lethal injections.

Attorneys for Lynd have filed an appeal for at stay of execution with the U.S. Supreme Court.
