The highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto IV is off to a lucrative start as the Take-Two Interactive Software game has brought in more than $500 million in global sales in its first week on the shelves.
That $500 million translated into more than 6 million games sold including an astounding 3.6 million on its debut date of April 29. The sales easily surpassed last year’s record-setting totals of $400 million brought in by Microsoft’s “Halo 3.”
Not only did GTA IV enjoy the biggest first week ever for video games but many are billing it as the largest opening for any entertainment outlet, surpassing records for music and movies.
