Samantha Geimer gets placed back into the national spotlight after a documentary on director Roman Polanski re-examines his rape charges.
Polanski pleaded guilty to rape 30 years ago, admitting to the statutory rape of then-13 year old Geimer in 1978, but fled to Paris before he could be sentenced.
Since Polanski was not a French-born native, he was not subject to extradiction.
Polanski committed the crime nine years after his wife Sharon Tate was killed by Charles Manson in his infamous murder spree. Tate, who was eight months pregnant, and four other friends were brutally murdered. Tate was stabbed 18 times.
Director Marina Zenovich has spent five years tracing every aspect of the case for Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired. The film was screened in New York on Monday and will be televised in the U.S. next month. HBO bought the film for America, and the Weinstein Company bought international distribution rights.
Geimer, now 45, is married with three kids and lives in Hawaii with her family.
