Rev. Al Sharpton was arrested Wednesday as he and hundreds of demonstrators blocked traffic during the Sean Bell protest.
Sharpton, the founder of the National Action Network, helped to organize the protest to battle the acquittal of three NYPD detectives, who unlawfully killed Bell.
Bell was killed in the 50-bullet shooting outside of a strip club as he and two friends celebrated his bachelor party. Bell died just hours before his wedding.
Police officers say that Bell and his two friends looked like they were reaching for a gun, but all three men were unarmed.
Sharpton, two survivors of the shooting and the slain man's fiancee were among about a dozen people arrested on disorderly conduct charges for the protest, which was located near the base of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Sharpton, shooting survivors Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman, and Bell's fiancee, Nicole Paultre Bell, lined up and peacefully put their hands behind their backs as police put plastic handcuffs on them.
According to residents, there will be other protests to combat the verdict in the Sean Bell murder, which occured in Nov. 2006.
