LA Police Department Hires Dietitian to Help Cops Slim Down

A full time diet coach has been hired by the Los Angeles Police Department to help its overweight officers get in shape.

Rana Parker, who joined the force last July, said, “I joke with them that I’m not the food police, that I’m just here to give them information, education and hopefully give them motivation to help themselves.”

Parker provides counseling for veterans and recruits of the LAPD, where limits on body fat were relaxed in recent years.

The nature of police work means officers face long, stress-filled work hours that keep them on-the-go. Parker faces an uphill battle of the bulge in encouraging the officers to adopt healthy lifestyles by eating better and getting in shape.
