Top Summer Camp Choice for 2010 is Academic Summer Camps

Academic summer camps are one of the most popular summer camp ideas for parents looking at unique opportunities for their kids this summer. The reason most often given is that a summer enrichment program offers kids some added and lasting value during their summer break.

At SuperCamp, all levels of students benefit from the learning and life skills the camp teaches. Studies of graduates have shown that well over 70 percent improve their grades the year following camp. But a great majority of SuperCamp graduates also report an increase in motivation, confidence and self-esteem.

Many parents are reluctant to enroll their sons and daughters into an academic summer camp because they feel it doesn’t provide the break from school that kids need. Not true with SuperCamp says the camp’s co-founder and president, Bobbi DePorter.

“SuperCamp is unlike anything most kids have experienced in school,” says DePorter. “It’s a high energy, multi-sensory, interactive and engaging 10-day experience that leaves campers wanting even more and hoping they can return next year.”

Parents can see what Ms. DePorter means by viewing their summer camp video. The video shows activity from the program’s youth summer camps and teen summer camps and includes comments from campers, parents and staff.

At the core of the SuperCamp curriculum is a basic philosophy – learning can and must be fun. SuperCamp believes that learning is a lifelong proposition people can undertake joyfully and successfully.

Physical challenges are used as metaphors for learning breakthroughs – paradigm shifts that change the understanding of learning. One of the physical challenges is a ropes course that has students climbing trees, tightrope walking forty feet in the air, leaping from a tiny platform atop a tall pole to catch a trapeze and falling backward from the top of a ladder into the arms of waiting team members.

Every student succeeds and the high that this success brings is transferred directly into the classroom, where they find they can be just as successful. As a result of this one activity, learning breakthroughs occur by the hundreds every summer at SuperCamp.

SuperCamp has graduated over 55,000 students worldwide since 1982. Including the company’s school programs, which trains teachers, administrators and students, SuperCamp’s Quantum Learning methods have positively impacted well over two million students.

SuperCamp will be held at nine U.S. college campuses this summer, from Stanford University in the west to Brown in the east.  SuperCamp offers three grade-specific programs: the 10-day Junior Forum for students entering grades 6-8 in the fall, the 10-day Senior Forum for students entering grades 9-12, and Quantum U for incoming college students. The dynamic learning environment is designed to maximize long-term retention of the information provided.

A limited number of spots remain for this summer. More information on SuperCamp is available by viewing its summer camp video, visiting the summer camp programs website or calling 800-285-3276.
